If you think Tinder is hard you should try going on a job interview. Worst blind date ever.
You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into until you actually get there, see the company, and meet the manager face to face. You have your questions and they have their own. And then you have your robotic answers already prepared. Nothing is extremely truthful, and one of you tries to lead the other on. Questions like “do you have an online portfolio?” are given answers like “yes.” Then I would immediately go home to make one. Or I would say, “I am a very organized person,” because you haven’t seen my desk at my last job, or my messy room.
“It’s Not You It’s Me”
When you give them your best material to try to impress them as hard as you can, they say that they will call you, but they don’t. They make up excuses like “oh we found someone else” or “we need someone with more experience” because really, it isn’t their fault it’s yours. It’s your fault for not having enough experience because you were spending your time in college learning important subjects that were supposed to help you get a job.
After I get rejected, I always want to know why, but unfortunately, they do not tell you. What did I do wrong? Was it because I said the word, “um” too many times? Did I shake your hand too tight? Was it my small talk? Do I need to get better at it? Can you please just give me one more chance? I mean you barely even know me and I feel like we were just getting started. What do you mean you already found someone else?
We go for the jobs out of our league that we can’t have meanwhile they want to hire someone who is over qualified who they can’t have. Does this sound familiar? It should be because this is called dating. They are doing this all wrong. Hey hiring companies get it right.
One thing that could be almost better about job interviews are that they get to ask for your personal references, but when you are on a blind date you don’t get to ask to speak with their ex about them afterwards.
Oddly enough it’s easier for me to find a date than an actual job. Probably because I already have a boyfriend. You can have your list of top ten worst dates, and next post I got my top ten worst job interviews…
